A team of 20 Home office employees are taking on an epic sporting challenge for charity. Known as the 'UKBA Olympians', the civil servants are attempting to raise £1000 for the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust, a charity that promotes bone marrow and blood donation.
The team began taking their sports in August and set a blistering pace. They have already done Kayaking, Running and Boxing. Their Boxing coaching was an exceptional experience for all involved as Olympic female Boxing hopeful and star of TV series 'Last Woman Standing' Lesley Sackey came along to hep coach the session.
Team member Heather Thompson said 'Taking part in the Gold Challenge has really helped us to bond as a team while at the same time raising money for a great cause; the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust. Hopefully some of us will carry on with the sports we are learning after the Games as part of the London 2012 legacy'
The UK Border Agency and Home Office are one of gold Gold Challenge's Corporate partners and are engaging many of their employees in the excitement around the Olympics seeing enhanced team work and wellbeing among employees. The UKBA Olympians are taking on Gold Challenge as part of a corporate team, but anyone can create their own Gold Challenge in a group or as an individual.
