Whatever the issue Kids Inspire steps in by helping to heal the wounds of trauma and reconnect individuals with both themselves and society. By doing so, the aim is to increase feelings of self-worth and prevent individuals from joining gangs and becoming involved with youth crime. You may think that poverty and neglect does not affect the young people of Essex………… In Essex, four young children slept under a dirty sheet on bare floorboards. At school, their clothes were dirty, they were unkempt and they were given no breakfast. Drugs and alcohol had left their parents unable to support these children effectively… In Essex a young girl wrapped her cut and bleeding arms in her nightdress, night after night. Abused from the age of six, at twelve she was still unsupported and struggling to deal with the impact of her experiences. She had not been to school for nearly two years and cutting her arms was the only way she knew to let the pain out… In Essex a teenage girl swore at passers by. She regularly drank from 4pm to 9pm and then left the park with a group of older men who knew that the drinking habit her parents had helped her acquire at the age of 11 would leave her vulnerable to their advances…. These three cases are some of many which are referred to Kids Inspire in Essex. We have been able to work individually with the four siblings and their parents. Their parents now provide breakfast every day and clean clothes for school. They each regularly see a counsellor and three of them have been paired with a mentor (a responsible adult volunteer) who is helping them to see a different world, one full of opportunities. Their school now describes these children who want to learn, play and join in. The young girl re-engaged with education, continues to access counselling regularly and is due to embark on a degree course in September to study medicine. The teenage girl, too has started to value herself. Even without the support of her parents, Kids Inspire has been able to support this young lady to a hairdressing apprenticeship and a respectful relationship with a young man of her own age. |
By choosing Kids Inspire your raised funds will drastically change the lives of the children we support to become confident, capable and healthy adults who contribute positively to society. £200 - £600 per month will provide support for a child who has suffered severe neglect, extreme abuse and trauma to have intensive psychotherapy. |

Kids Inspire looks after the needs of vulnerable and traumatised young people, from 35 schools in and around Essex. The children supported by Kids Inspire vary widely – some have suffered trauma, neglect or abuse and who, as a result, may feel disconnected from society. Which in turn causes their behaviour to challenge teachers and support staff, these children are often labelled, and are at risk of exclusion.
