The Gold Challenge

Huq and CollinsThe Gold Challenge is a charity challenge where you take on 5, 10, 20 or 30 Olympic and Paralympic sports and raise money for a charity of your choice. You can choose from all 30 of the Olympic and Paralympic sports, and must complete your challenge before the end of 2012. Get your friends and family to sponsor you to take on new sports or really push your boundaries and do a endurance event such as a marathon or a triathlon.

Anyone can do the Gold Challenge regardless of your physical ability, your level of fitness or where you live - you just have to be 16 years old or over*.  It's about creating your own personal challenge that people will sponsor you for completing. You can do the Gold Challenge as an individual or get a group of friends together and take it on as a team - it's also a great opportunity for corporates looking for a new sporting challenge.

With the world's largest sporting event, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, just around the corner, this is your once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of the excitement, not just a spectator. Just choose your challenge, and choose your cause.

Sport

Teams

You can choose from 30 Olympic and Paralympic sports. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner, you play occasionally, you’re a club member or you have a disability – just pick the session that’s right for you.

To find out more about all the sports, including how and where to complete them - go to our Sport Section

And for an idea of how much they're likely to cost you, take a look at our sport costing document here. Please note, ultimately the cost of a session depends on your provider, these are just rough average estimates.

You complete your sport by:

Undertaking a minimum of three hours coaching in that sport (either in one session or spread out over a period of time). This is ideal for learning a new sport - or improving your skills.

OR

Completing an endurance event such as a marathon or triathlon

Remember to download your certificate from our Media Centre, print it off and take it with you when you have completed a sport.

Mark your sport as completed on your Results Tracker and you can:

  • Keep track of all the sports you’ve done
  • Enter bonus points to show how well you’re doing
  • Become eligible for Gold Challenge prizes - see our section on Points and Prizes to find out more.

Teams

If you're taking on the Gold Challenge as a team, you have to decide if you want to do 5, 10, 20 or 30 sports together, and then decide which sports your team will do.

30_sportsIt's up to each member of the team to decide whether they do all of the sports, or just some of them.  You share the sports out between the team so you could do as many or as few as you want.

All team member must register with the Gold Challenge in order to take part.

All team members must fundraise for the same charity

Your team's score will be calculated by taking the highest score out of all your teammates for each sport your team completes
