Action for Brazil's Children Trust (ABC)

ABC Trust is dedicated to helping the street children and most vulnerable young people of Brazil.  By raising awareness and funding we support the work of community-led organisations which give children the education, support and inspiration needed to transform their lives.

As a fundrasing and grant-giving organisation, ABC enables grass-roots social projects to take the lead in overcoming the problems of extreme poverty, abuse and lack of opportunity that drive young people onto the streets in Brazil.  We aim to ensure that the most vulnerable children and young people receive the support they need to get a quality education and develop the skills and knowledge required to give them the opportunities and self-belief to live a full and rewarding life.

Over the last ten years, we have focused our funding in three key areas: the provision of basic needs, supporting educational opportunities, and personal and community development through cultural activities and the arts. We have built up strong partnerships with local organizations which provide vital training, education and support for young people, and fire their imaginations and creativity through dance, film, drama and music.

More than 3000 children and their families are reached every day through projects made possible by ABC supporters' donations. From education and medical care to counselling and creative workshops, our work provides an all-too-rare source of hope for some of Brazil's poorest and most vulnerable children.

Stadium-350Want to be the first to run the 100m in the new Olympic Stadium?

The Gold Challenge, one of the official London 2012 legacy projects, will host a key test event in the Olympic Stadium for 20,000 people on Sunday 2nd April 2012.

This is your chance to compete in the Olympic Stadium: run 100m on the track or take part in the Gold Challenge Parade watched by friends, family and a crowd of 20,000 people. ABC has ten places for ten fundraisers.

To be able to get this opportunity, participants must be registered with Gold Challenge for ABC Trust. There are 3 challenges to choose from and all you must do is register for one and choose ABC.

More about ABC Trust

Every day, children are forced to face the violence, hunger and isolation of life on the streets of Brazil. Recent figures estimate that over 7 million children live a life on the streets in some way. For many, this means occasional school, petty trading, begging and prostitution, only returning to their homes in the evening.

Others have no home at all and must face the dangers of sleeping on the streets; they find themselves increasingly excluded from their own communities with no way back.

ABC is currently involved in international football project, The Street Child World Cup. This initiative brings current and ex-street children from around the world together to play in their own football tournament and to take part in art workshops and discussions which gave them the chance to share their stories and be heard. In March 2010, ABC took Team Brasil to South Africa for the first ever Street Child World Cup and we are now working with the team to create a four year campaign before bringing the project to Brazil in 2014.
