Leading veterinary charity, PDSA, exists to care for the pets of people in need by providing free veterinary services to their sick and injured animals and promoting responsible pet ownership.
This year PDSA will provide more than 1.8 million free treatments to sick and injured pets. But we don't just save lives; we prevent disease from striking in the first place. This year we will also provide more than 200,000 preventive treatments - including neutering, vaccinations and flea treatments to keep our pet patients in good health.
We do not receive any funding from HM Government or the National Lottery towards our PetAid services. They are funded entirely by public support, mainly through gifts in wills, donations and trading.
The average annual cost to run just one PDSA PetAid hospital is more than £800,000. PDSA has 48 PetAid hospitals and branches throughout the UK, and also funds care through over 350 private veterinary practices.
PDSA believes:
- All pets should receive veterinary care and attention when they are sick and or injured
- All pets should be protected from suffering, injury and disease
- All pets should enjoy a healthy and happy life
- Everyone should be able to enjoy and benefit from pet ownership
Why choose PDSA?
In recent years, demand for PDSA services has risen by 30% - and is expected to continue to rise to around 50% by 2011.
The impact of this huge rise has been dramatic in many of our pet hospitals, but nowhere more so than in Plymouth, Cardiff and Birmingham. It means we're treating thousands more sick and injured pets in dated buildings, designed and equipped for a fraction of the number.
By 2013, we must raise £6 million to build and equip three vital new pet hospitals. For this, we need the support of animal lovers who share our determination to offer treatment to every pet that needs us. Our plans are ambitious, but we can do it with your support.
