Vision Charity aims to enable blind and visually impaired children to fully contribute to society. We fund projects throughout the UK providing equipment, activities & skills to broaden their horizons and engage with the community.

Vision Charity was founded in 1975 by visual communication professionals with the aim of helping to improve the lives of Blind and Visually Impaired (VI) children and young adults. Through a range of outstanding events Vision funds projects that provide equipment, activities and skills enabling children to turn ambition into action, improving their lives and the lives of their families, carers and teachers. Vision's donations policy is born out of a close and long standing association with the Blind & VI community ensuring that its donations have the farthest reach.

 Vision Charity aims to:

  • Prevent children becoming one of the 80% of Blind and VI people that fail to find employment.
  • Allow children the freedom to discover and learn vital skills through much needed holidays with their families, giving them the opportunity to say “I CAN"
  • Help children to engage in pioneering activities which level the playing field in mainstream settings
  • Provide equipment and services that expand opportunities for families and schools.

To date, Vision has raised in excess of £3m for equipment, activities and research to change the lives of Blind & VI children and their carers. Our donations benefit organisations throughout the UK and recently in Sierra Leone & Sri Lanka.

Why choose Vision?

Utilising the power of the Gold Challenge Vision charity will create a sports legacy fund which will enable Blind & VI children and young adults to access sport throughout the UK. We aim to increase awareness of the challenges and raise funds to enable our children to overcome any obstacle that may prevent them from participating. Vision believes strongly that sport is a great vehicle for change. It encourages team building, problem solving, social awareness and many other attributes that will improve the chance for our children and young people to fully contribute to society and the world around them.
Many children within our sector, now in mainstream education, are isolated from activities which are essential to their development. They are denied the opportunity to take part in sport due to a lack of specialist coaching, facilities and equipment;

Most specialist schools now focus on multi-disability children.

Specialist schools providing appropriate activities have real difficulty projecting to mainstreamed Blind and VI children and therefore the take up of their facilities has reduced significantly.

Without a central resource it is virtually impossible for visually impaired children to tap into or find out about appropriate sports initiatives.
The Vision Sports legacy fund that you are helping us create will address this void by collaborating with national governing bodies and sports facilities to provide a long term solution.

We will respond to requests from charities, groups and associations within the Blind & VI community that wish to provide long term and ongoing opportunities for young people to engage in sport. Through this process we may identify potential future champions who could inspire the next generation to take part. We will also support specialist schools and colleges to enhance their facilities, giving our beneficiaries and wider community the best opportunities to connect with sport.
